Battle of Bassano
Arc de Triomphe: BASSANO
September 8, 1796
Count Wurmser again set off with an Austrian force to relieve the siege of Mantua. Wurmser hurriedly marched towards his goal and upon learning of the movements, General Bonaparte immediately began a pursuit. Marching quickly, the French caught up to the Austrians at Bassano. When the two forces collided, the French were victorious and scattered the Austrians, eventually chasing them into Mantua, further crowding the fortress.
