Battle of Fuentes de Oñoro
Arc de Triomphe: FUENTE d'OUORO
May 3, 1811 - May 5, 1811
Wellington had laid siege to the fortress of Almeida, and Marshal Masséna was determined to relieve the siege and retain that important position. When Wellington learned of the relief force, he took up defensive positions around Fuentes de Oñoro. For three days the French tried to find a way through, but each time they advanced, they were pushed back. Finally, Masséna gave up and withdrew.
