Battle of Toulouse

Arc de Triomphe: TOULOUSE

April 10, 1814

Even though Napoleon had already abdicated, news had not reached the front in the southern France. Therefore, Wellington continued to advance and attempt to destroy Marshal Soult's army. Soult had moved into the fortified city of Toulouse and was prepared for a long siege. After the British attacked and successfully seized a key position, Soult decided to abandon the city and his entire army snuck out during the night. Afterwards, news reached both armies of Napoleon's abdication and the two opposing sides agreed to an armistice.
