Battle of Arcis-sur-Aube

March 20, 1814 - March 21, 1814

Hoping to defeat the Allies before they could unite, Napoleon led his men across the Aube River and launched an attack on Marshal Schwarzenberg's troops. The next day Schwarzenberg brought up more troops, but wary of Napoleon's skill, he did not launch an enthusiastic attack. The French retreated in good order in the face of the superior numbers, but this would be Napoleon's last major battle before his first abdication.
